Can Your Mind Shape Your Body?

Have you ever started a weight loss plan only to pretty much forget about it days later? This is a common issue amongst people who wish to lose weight and it is caused by a weak connection between the body and mind. So what can be done to strengthen this connection and bring weight loss success? Read on to discover the answer.

---

We’ve all done it. We’ve all decided that *now* is the time to begin an exercise program. How long does it typically last though? A week, a month…occasionally a little longer. Why does this happen? You start working out with the intention of remaining dedicated and sticking with it, yet soon you’re back on the couch - maybe watching sports but doing no more physical activity than lifting a soda to your lips.

What if I was to tell you that it wasn’t your fault? What if I was to tell you that it *was*? The truth lies somewhere in between.

There’s a couple of perfectly good reasons why you find it so difficult to stick to your exercise regime. The first is that it simply isn’t in human nature to want to expend energy wastefully. The second is that you’re going about it the wrong way. The mind controls the body, not the other way around so if you want to take up regular exercise whether that be a daily brisk walk or hitting the weights then you have to get your mind on board with the program.

How do you do this though? How is it possible to break those lazy habits that have built up over the years? Brace yourself for the answer…hypnosis!

More people are now turning to hypnosis due its safety and the simple fact that it works. But it’s important to understand how hypnosis works before trying it for yourself. When you enter a hypnotic state you are silencing your conscious mind - you will still be aware of what is going on around you but you will be deeply relaxed. From there you can speak to the subconscious mind, the part of your mind that controls your habits, personality and emotional responses. With carefully planted suggestions you can change so much about yourself that you would be amazed at the possibilities!

However you can’t just say to yourself “lose weight”, “exercise more”, or “build muscle”. That is too direct. A well trained hypnotherapist will use a combination of NLP, visualization, affirmations and many other techniques to help you achieve your goals.

Now you know the secret behind getting your body in peak shape - it’s using your mind! Don’t think this is just an idol boast though. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Lee, both famed for their incredible physical conditioning, used the techniques mentioned above to get the very most from their bodies.

Incorporating hypnosis into your daily routine is easier than ever now. There are many great hypnotherapists who sell hypnosis mp3s on their websites. These are delivered instantly to your email and can be on your computer or iPod in a matter of minutes! So why not give it a try today? Get up, get fit and get the most from your body thanks to hypnosis!

What is Hypnosis and How Can it Help Me?

There is still a low level of understanding amongst the public about what hypnosis is. The sinister old movie images of a creepy looking man controlling the minds of his victims still worries some people, yet if they were to try hypnotherapy they would discover that this old stereotype couldn’t be further from the truth.

Read on to discover what hypnosis really is and what it can do for you.

---

When you hear the word hypnosis, what immediately comes to mind? Is it a dark figure with a goatee swinging a pocket watch back and forth in an attempt to take control over your mind and have you do his evil bidding for him? If so, then it's time to turn off the cartoons and pay attention.

Have you ever been watching a movie and felt like you were actually there? Or perhaps pulled into a good book by the words of the author? Maybe you were driving down the road, singing at the top of your lungs to a new tune and were almost completely unaware of what was going on around you. If so, congratulations! You have been hypnotized!

Hypnosis is commonly defined as a relaxed and focused state of concentration. When you were watching the movie, reading the book and exercising your vocal chords, you were relaxed in your environment and completely focused and concentrating on only one thing.

Here are some common misconceptions about hypnosis:

1. Hypnosis will not make you tell secrets. When in a hypnotic state, you're merely open to suggestions. You still have a choice and won't divulge anything you wouldn't ordinarily divulge. You might bring forward some inner truths, which is what hypnosis is generally used for. These might shed light on some self-sabotage or some other situations you're currently placing yourself in.

2. Hypnosis cannot make you do something against your will. Those people you see on stage have a desire to do something outrageous, which is why certain suggestions work on them. If you don't have that same desire, those suggestions would not have the same effect on you.

3. You can't be stuck in a permanent hypnotic state. Hypnosis is merely a relaxed and focused state so it's impossible to be "stuck" there. For instance, if the specialist left the room, one of two things would happen. Either you would fall asleep and wake up naturally or your mind would realize nothing is happening and bring you out of your focused state.

Benefits of Hypnosis

Hypnosis can be helpful in many ways, from remembering people's names to completely changing your life. Many people use hypnosis to change habits, such as quitting smoking, and form new habits, like exercising daily.

Research even suggests that hypnosis may be able to make your body look younger by reprogramming new cells and instructing them to find the healthiest blueprint to develop.

How You Can Use Hypnosis

There are a couple of different ways to induce hypnosis, including self-hypnosis and seeing a specialist. Here are some of the benefits of each:

Self-Hypnosis. Using CDs and MP3 downloads, you can practice self-hypnosis in the comfort of your own home. This allows you to get into a comfortable and relaxed stage more quickly and stay there for extended amounts of time.

The relaxation is a key part of being hypnotized, and there are many programs that take you through the relaxing process all the way to helping you accomplish the changes you wish to make.

Another added benefit is the cost. While seeing a specialist can be a huge benefit, cost is a giant hurdle for many people.

Specialists. Seeing a specialist is a great way to start your hypnosis regimen. Having a professional to guide you is a great tool. Specialists can also help with uncovering some of the innermost issues you might have and fix your problem on a deeper level.

If you have any questions, most specialists will allow a free consultation so you can get the feel of them and their space. The biggest thing to remember is you must feel comfortable and be open to their practices if you want to make a change.

Hypnosis depends totally on you. If you don't want to be hypnotized or feel you can't be hypnotized, then your mind will stop you. Without your comfort and willingness, hypnosis will not work, no matter what route you try.

If you want to make a change for the better, do your research and understand what hypnosis really is, so you can make an informed decision. After all, hypnosis can't make you do something against your will!

The Facts of Smoking Cessation Hypnosis

Have you tried all the patches and gums on the market, but still not been able to give up smoking? Well perhaps you’re going about it the wrong way, what if I were to say to you the most successful method of quitting smoking wasn’t another drug, but hypnosis?

You might not believe me but as the article below reveals, the facts and statistics weight heavily on the side of hypnosis.

---

More and more people are choosing stop smoking hypnosis when they want to quit. Does it work? And if so, how?

There are several different theories for how hypnosis works. One is dissociation, which suggests that the subject's behavioral control sector is temporarily partitioned off from ordinary awareness. Another theory suggests that the subject is in fact in control the whole time but has made an unconscious decision to act as if he were not.

Some people are more easily hypnotized than others. When people's brains are studied under hypnosis and in a normal state, researchers have found that different areas of the brain are more active in people who are easily hypnotized while they are under hypnosis, compared with people who are less susceptible to hypnosis. When they were not hypnotized there was no difference. This suggests that there is a difference in the way that the brain works when it is hypnotized.

Hypnosis for stopping smoking involves the hypnotist making suggestions to the quitting smoker, while the smoker is hypnotized. It does not require any control of his behavior. This works because during hypnosis the brain will not censor what is said: it accepts everything it is told without question.

So if the person is told that he no longer wants to smoke, when he wakes he will know, for certain, that he does not want to smoke. There is no 'Do I want a cigarette or don't I?' He may feel cravings from time to time, but he will know they are just the effects of a former addiction that is no longer relevant to him.

Unlike other methods of quitting, hypnosis can tackle the question of weight gain at the same time. Many people do gain weight when they stop smoking, but as hypnotism can also be used for weight loss, the hypnotist can easily tackle both of these questions at the same time to prevent the subject gaining weight when they quit.

If avoiding weight gain is important to you, check whether this is included before you book a session with a hypnotist or buy a CD.

Scientific research on the success of hypnosis for quitting smoking has not been entirely conclusive, but some results claim a success rate of up to 80%. Success probably depends on three factors:

Whether the person is easily hypnotized - the strength of their motivation to quit - the hypnotist's technique.

There is no way to know if you will be a good hypnotism subject without trying it, but you can certainly work on your motivation. Try to choose a time for your appointment when you will be relaxed and feeling positive, not when you are under a lot of stress for any reason. For women, it is better to avoid the premenstrual time of your cycle.
If the hypnotist suggests a follow-up session after a few weeks or months, be sure to attend even if you do not think you need it. People sometimes go back to smoking even after a long time, and this will help you avoid that. If you bought a CD, it may include follow-up recordings that you should listen to.

If you are considering hypnotism to get over your tobacco addiction, you would be wise to ask for recommendations in your area for a good hypnotist. Your doctor or other health practitioner may have some advice to give. Generally, people who attend any kind of quit smoking therapy do better than those who do not, and stop smoking hypnosis can be one of the best kinds.

Is Hypnosis a Dirty Word?

Outside the hypnosis industry itself, hypnosis is a word that is very rarely spoken. Many doctor's dismiss it and self-improvement coaches avoid it. But why is this? Does hypnosis have no merits or is there a deeper reason behind this?

Jake Rhodes discusses the issue below and what hypnotherapists can do to aid the profession.

---

The self improvement movement is growing by the day. Both the internet and the lecture halls are awash with self-help gurus who promise that their methods can make you a better person. Often the main crux of these programs revolve around positive affirmations, creative visualization and NLP. Yet these people have a grubby little secret. All of these techniques are lifted directly from the instrument of improvement known commonly as hypnosis.

So why don’t these people ever mention hypnosis is part of their methods? Two simple reasons. Firstly the majority of them are not trained hypnotherapists, and secondly the public has a lack of understanding of exactly how hypnosis works.

There’s an inherent danger in both of these issues. By “re-dressing” hypnosis sham self-help gurus can attempt to use the successful methodology behind it without having any real training or qualifications and unfortunately their followers never question them.

The average person on the street still doesn’t fully understand how hypnosis works. Instead their mind conjures the image of a stage hypnotist making a member of the audience think that they’re a chicken. This is exactly why even well trained and fully qualified hypnotists such as Paul McKenna now prefer to call themselves self-help gurus or personal coaches. Indeed you can visit Paul McKenna’s official website right now and you won’t hypnosis or any variant of the word mentioned once on the landing page.

Is There a Way Back for Hypnosis?

Yes there is. Hypnotherapists have to stage a fight back of their own. This means taking back the word hypnosis and making it a respected practice. Doing this is actually quite easy - just by having hypnotherapists call themselves as such shows pride in the profession.

Secondly they need to make the effort to reach out to more people and explain their training and exactly how hypnosis works. It’s no surprise that people are scared to try hypnosis for themselves when their only knowledge of it is what they see on stage or on TV and in the movies since these usually show hypnosis as either a light-hearted or sinister method of mind control. Of course this couldn’t be further from the truth. Hypnosis is actually one of the most powerful methods of self empowerment.

Fortunately there’s an outside force that’s actually proving to be a very positive ally to hypnosis - science. With every scientific study seems to come another glowing testimony for the power of hypnosis, from its ability to help people quit smoking to the increased speed of healing it offers. Even the NHS now presents patients the opportunity to use hypnotherapy as an anaesthetic due to its safety and high success rate.

There are many websites that proudly proclaim themselves as selling hypnosis products, and they make them very affordable and easy to understand for the average person which is exactly what is needed to continue to take positive steps forward. It could be that the future of hypnosis is still a bright one.
