Just about anyone who has ever had an interest in hypnosis has run across hypnosis scripts. But what value does a script really yield? With thousands of different scripts on hundreds of potential subjects even the most cursory review gets overwhelming pretty quickly. But there are some specific situations where hypnosis scripts can be highly valuable.
For the professional hypnotherapist, scripts come in handy in one of two ways. First, if you prefer reading to memorization, you might just use scripts for as long as you practice hypnotherapy. Strong, confident readers might prefer a script. Second, when faced with a request from a client or patient for hypnosis covering a topic you are not familiar with, you could certainly review a script just to make sure you are doing your due diligence before just plowing in.
For everyone else, scripts provide a valuable look into how professional hypnotherapists structure sessions that include deep hypnotic trance. Understand, however, that not every script will cover the necessary induction and deepening required to be effective. For the most part, you will need a certain level of mastery of a number of basic hypnosis skills before a script will be of any use whatsoever.
And that's the catch about hypnosis scripts really. Before you will be able to use them, you will need to be able to hypnotize someone. Once you learn certain techniques for induction and deepening you will probably be fairly familiar with what you should be doing during the session anyway - and at that point a script may become less necessary than you thought.
However, considering the thousands of potential topics you could cover during hypnosis, it is well worth your time to at least read through a script before you begin. Many professionals will write their own scripts or at least notes, but with scripts so readily available making your own is an exercise in reinventing the wheel. There are so many well done scripts available for free or in packages for purchase that it hardly makes sense to write them from scratch. You will certainly want to make notes or minor changes so that your own personal preferences and personality - or even techniques shine through, but a good script can save you loads of time.
Like most things, not all hypnosis materials are created equal. Be sure you are getting your information from a reputable source, much the same way you might do if you needed a standard contract form for a business. Not every contract you can get on the internet was actually written by a lawyer. And just like a legal contract, you might very well be better off with hiring a lawyer to write one for your specific situation.
So in the end, knowing if or when a hypnosis script is the right thing has a lot to do with who is asking. But for the most part they are a valuable tool for nearly anyone to use during hypnosis. As long as you get your script from a hypnosis professional, you will probably find that they can save you time and effort. If you are relatively new to hypnosis, you should definitely practice with scripts for some time until you become fluid with the process. For the pro, scripts can still provide valuable insight in various
