Hypnotize Yourself To Quit Smoking

I'm sure you've tried to use your will power many times to stop smoking. It seems counter-intuitive to command yourself to do so. But if you will pay attention to advertisers, you'll see the validity of this statement.

Pepsi doesn't gently cajole you into choosing their brand of refreshment by lightly suggesting, "Perhaps Pepsi would be a good idea if you're thirsty." No, they command you to "Drink Pepsi." Burger King doesn't offer you a hamburger that, "Could be created the way you want it if you choose to do so." No, they command you to "Have it your way." And in the most blatant example of all, when you watch a Sprite commercial, you are commanded to "Obey your thirst."

When we watch television, we relax and are put into a hypnotic trance by the advertisers. Have you noticed how difficult it can be to tear your eyes away from the screen?

Words are commands. Hear them often enough and we obey. How can we use this to stop smoking? Follow these steps (notice the command in the word, "Follow"):

1. Close your eyes and get comfortable. Take a few slow, deep breaths. With each breath, notice yourself going deeper and deeper into a state of relaxation. Relax your mind, relax your body, relax, relax, relax. All sounds which you may hear will have only a calming, soothing, effect.

2. Repeat over and over and over any or all of these commands:

· All my old urges are melting away and being replaced by strong feelings of success.
· All that remains are distant memories of having smoked. I am free and in control.
· I will never again reach for anything to smoke without thinking. I will never unconsciously smoke again.
· I feel the exhilaration as I toss away my cigarettes without any need or desire at all.
· I have lost interest in smoking.
· I sleep easily, naturally and comfortably without a last cigarette.
· I feel very good in body, mind and spirit because I no longer smoke.
· I am free of nicotine.
· I feel strong. My heart and lungs are clear and strong. With each breath, I inhale more energy and health.
· I don't gain weight because I have control over everything that I put in my mouth.
· I am free.

Here are some ways to add power to these commands:

1. Record the commands for replay while you are in a relaxed state or have someone else record them for you or have someone read them aloud while you relax.
2. Write down commands of your choice and place them where you'll see them at home and at work.
3. Tell several friends that you are quitting smoking and tell them to regularly remind you of your pledge. Choose friends who you know will command you to keep your word.

Commanding yourself to quit while in a relaxed state will ensure you stop smoking. And that's today's self hypnosis secret.

My name is Larry Barkan. I've been a training and development consultant since 1984 teaching leadership and management to corporate executives. I've been a hypnotherapist since 1997.

My fascination with hypnosis began when I attended a 3-hour lecture on a Sunday evening at a YMCA. There were about 100 people in attendance. The speaker did a relaxation exercise and concluded with the suggestion that "You will be amazed by how well this week goes for you." I forgot the suggestion until Wednesday of that week when I caught myself marveling at how well the week had gone. Projects that I had been struggling to complete were finished easily. People who had been difficult had suddenly turned cooperative. I was hooked.

I have used hypnosis to help people stop smoking, lose weight and relax. I currently use it in my training classes to help participants overcome obstacles to effective performance.

Hypnosis To Overcome Anxiety

Self hypnosis is simple. You've already done it many, many times.

Here's a story I heard recently of a woman who self hypnotized herself into being anxious. I'll call her Melissa. While your anxiety may not be the same as Melissa's, perhaps you'll see some of yourself in her.

The college Melissa attended held a "best dressed" competition. Melissa won when she was a freshman and was now in competition with the sophomores, juniors and senior girls. She had to pose on stage and answer a few questions. As she was leaving the stage, she tripped and fell. Everyone in the audience stood up to see if she was hurt. Melissa was humiliated and ever since then has been afraid of being in front of an audience.

Now think about this for just a moment. What actually happened in reality is that Melissa fell down the stairs and the audience stood up to see if she was hurt. That's all that happened.

However, that's not what Melissa self hypnotized herself into believing. What she hypnotized herself into believing is that, because she was "humiliated," she would never again allow that to happen in front of an audience. She put herself into a hypnotic trance by repeating this vow over and over.

But "humiliation" never happened in reality. That's just the "post hypnotic suggestion" Melissa used to keep herself fearful of giving a speech. Every time she gets up to speak, she replays this experience in her head, puts herself back in that trance and becomes anxious.

Perhaps you don't remember an incident from your past that triggers your anxiety. It doesn't matter. The important thing to know is that something happened and you made it mean "I'm not good enough" or "I'll never get it right" or "This is hard."

So self-hypnosis is simple. Here are the steps to take to overcome your anxiety:

1. Close your eyes and, as you breath in and out, say the word "relax" to yourself."

2. Imagine a situation in which you're anxious like taking a test or giving a speech. See yourself doing that activity. Be descriptive without adding any emotion or interpretation. For example, if you see yourself about to give a speech, simply see yourself standing in front of people. Visualize yourself, the room and the people in the audience.

3. Now say to yourself something like, " I'm powerful and dynamic." "Public speaking is easy and effortless." "I'm joyful when I speak to an audience." Keep repeating that phrase over and over. Do this for at least 5 minutes.

4. Open your eyes slowly and gently and return to wakefulness.

The key is to repeat that word or phrase over and over. That's how you self hypnotized yourself into being anxious in the first place. You've hypnotized yourself so thoroughly that you no longer even notice that you're hypnotized. In a sense, you've hypnotized yourself through practice, practice and more practice.

So it will take repeated practice of replacing your negative self talk with positive talk. In a sense, you'll be hypnotizing yourself from one hypnotic trance that produces anxiety to another hypnotic trance that serves you.

But you must keep practicing. In so doing, you're creating new connections in your brain that will produce new thoughts and feelings.

I have used hypnotherapy to help people stop smoking, lose weight and relax. As a training and development consultant, I also use it in my training classes to help participants overcome obstacles to effective performance.

Self Hypnosis and Its Benefits

What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you hear the word "hypnosis"? Most definitely you will be apprehensive. In fact, you will immediately end up not reading the rest of the article. That is why as early as now, you should learn to set aside all the negative preconceived notions you have about it.

True-blue hypnosis is not about brainwashing. It is all about opening yourself to better and more positive emotions, so you can combat the negative feelings that have developed some clout in your mind.

There is a variety of ways on how to do hypnosis. For starters you may want to begin with the self-hypnosis, which carries the following benefits:

1. It is you who alters your mind. One of the concerns about hypnosis is you have someone who has more control over your mind. If you are apprehensive that another person may develop some influence on you, you can do self-hypnosis instead. There will be certain tools you can use during the process, but the bottom line is you are the mere determinant on how long you want to go on with the procedure and what kind of experience you want to go through.

2. There are many tools available. Speaking of tools, you can already pick among the many options today. Usually, you can get self-hypnosis materials in the form of mp3s and CDs. You simply have to listen to the instructions and allow yourself to visualize and just go with the flow of what you are hearing.

There are also others that are in the form of videos. You will hear narratives and images, which are normally soothing and calming.

Of the two, the best option will be the CDs since they give you a chance to really relax by closing your eyes. You can do self-hypnosis by sitting or lying on a smooth flat surface, which is ideal.

3. It invites positive affirmations. Self-hypnosis paves the way for subliminal messages. Subliminal messages can be words, sounds, or images that have meanings picked up by the subconscious. Because they do not go through the conscious, they are more easily received or accepted by the brain.

Subliminal messages, in relation to hypnosis, are commonly positive statements called affirmations. You fill your mind with such encouraging and powerful words, and you will notice how your body starts to react with what you are thinking. After all, these messages will slowly become a part of your belief system.

4. It helps you deal with a lot of problems. If you have heard about how hypnosis helps people suffering from illnesses, from depression to cancer, it is because it does. Again, you can go back to the subliminal messages. For some reason, your entire brain gets rewired. Scientifically speaking, your brain will then send signals to different parts of your body to help you act out your positive thoughts. It is not really unusual for people to develop new vitality or energy after self-hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy For Building Happy Relationships

There are the happy moments in relationships when two people decide to become a couple, when they decide that they want to stay together, when they both want to commit to each other. They consider themselves happy, perhaps there is an engagement, they decide to marry or they are newly married, or perhaps they just moved in together and started living as a couple. Life feels great, they are loved and they love, and they start building their new life together. They see it as a serious relationship, the beginning of a happy life.

And this is also very often a time when unexpected relationship issues start happening. This could be an unreasonable jealousy, anger, lack of communication, just mentioning a few. Surprisingly, when partners become closer, they may start fighting, they may become demanding, it may seem that the other person is controlling, not caring enough or over protective, too serious or not having any sense of humor. Sometimes there is just a growing anxiety, feeling trapped, feeling insecure. The intimacy weakens, sex is becoming difficult. Sometimes the person can become so upset and disappointed, that he/she employs other coping mechanisms, like drinking, binge eating, insomnia, even some psychosomatic problems. How can all this happen?

When we are more engaged in the relationship, when it is not a flirt or play anymore, when it becomes more important and serious, and we are committed, and we want it to work, we became also more insecure. The deep love may be very frightening. There could be many reasons. First, there can be hurt and resentment from the previous relationships. If the previous fiancé was cheating with your best mate, it is quite likely that you will become jealous in the next relationship. If your previous husband was violent and controlling, you may be inclined to think men are violent and controlling. It seems impossible to trust, even if we are conscious that these fears and assumption are illogical.

There could also be deeper reasons, almost always unconscious. We repeat patterns from our family of origin, we are entangled in the old beliefs and interpretations from childhood and we project those beliefs onto our partners. We very often seek in a partner a substitute for a mother or father, trying to win the parents love from the partner. Sometimes it is opposite; we see a parent's faults in our partner. Mother was controlling and critical, so wife is accused of being controlling and we cannot swallow any criticism from her. Father was violent, so we cannot trust any men. Parents were fighting and not happy, so we cannot believe in happy relationships. The family patterns may repeat generation after generation.

The good news is that we do not need to carry the baggage from the previous relationships and from our parents. We can free ourselves from all unhelpful beliefs on a conscious and subconscious level. We can restore the natural flow of love in our families and we can free and empower ourselves. We can create strong lasting relationship, built on love, trust and understanding, and we can grow and evolve together with our partner, letting in the natural happiness and joy in our lives.

There are many approaches aimed at building a loving, lasting relationship. The most common counseling or psychological approach will teach you how to communicate, how to deal with different situations, how to show your feelings. You can learn cognitive and behavioral skills, recognize your thinking patterns, watch and try to control your thoughts, even learn to deal with emotions. Very useful skills, it all helps, even if it may take long a time and a lot of goodwill on both sides.

However, there are better approaches, working on the deepest level, creating real changes, removing all blockages, creating acceptance and understanding, opening the heart and letting the love flow naturally. When there is acceptance and love, there is nothing to hide, there is no reason to control thoughts or deal with emotions, the communication flows naturally, sometimes even without words.

One of the most efficient therapies to work on both conscious and subconscious level is hypnotherapy. It combines counseling and many psychotherapy approaches. The therapy is performed in hypnosis, so the subconscious mind can be explicitly accessed and cleared from unhelpful beliefs and habits. Hypnotherapy allows the most personalized approach. Everybody is different, the web of causes and effects is different for everybody, and in hypnosis the client can access and implement the best solution from the deepest self.

Family Constellations (or Systemic Constellations) is the other powerful phenomenological, alternative or complementary therapy that is gentle, effective and safe. This is an experiential, spiritual and practical approach to building better relationships and reaching your potential. I usually combine the Family Constellation approach with hypnotherapy, together with other techniques, and I've found it one of the most effective methods for restoring the natural flow of love. The Family Constellation workshop allows to reach the deepest possible level of our being,
is even more powerful than the hypnosis, the real movement of the souls is created, real turning point in our lives.

The Law of Attraction Is Hypnosis

This probably won't be popular with diehard Law of Attractionists, but nevertheless, it's true. Let's compare the two. You use the Law of Attraction because you need something. It may be wealth, freedom from pain, to gain confidence, success in a certain project.

Basically, the Law tells you to; Ask, Believe, Receive. When they suggest you ask, they quite rightly mean 'ask.' List down in your journal every aspect of what it is you want. Let's assume you wish for prosperity. A lot more money, new car, new house and all the trimmings. These must be not only written down, but described in minute detail.

When you've finished writing, you read through what you've written, imagining everything as you go. Effectively, living your new life. So what are you really doing? Putting yourself into trance state. Into an hypnotic state, embedding your desires into your unconscious.

Now this is fine, but why aren't you already rich? Has something been holding you back? Lack of self-confidence, perhaps? You could be putting the cart before the horse here. How many really wealthy people do you know who completely lack self-confidence? Not many.

It's interesting to note that during the last three months of pregnancy, the neonate within the womb experiences more Rapid Eye Movement, (REM), than at any time during the rest of its life. All manner of human instincts are embedded within its mind ready for it to begin its journey into the real world.

Now, bear in mind that hypnosis is a perfectly natural state very similar to night time dreaming, which is the REM state. Indeed, REM is often called the 'paradoxical sleep,' because the brainwave patterns are so similar to those during the times when you're awake. Now occasionally, in the womb, your instincts learned the wrong response.

For instance, instead of having normal self-confidence, you were by-passed in this respect! So if REM programmed the pre-born infant's instincts, it's logical that you use hypnosis, which mimics the REM state, to help you programme your instincts to the responses you wish. It isn't any good simply trying to be more self-confident, or trying to force yourself by will power. It just won't work.

You must re-educate your unconscious, and that can only be done by hypnosis. So we see how hypnosis, exercised properly, can 'tap' the unconscious in such a way that efforts such as willpower are pointless. You automatically become more confident and self-assured without even thinking about it.

Now you have at least one tool you can use to bring you all those things you desire. Both hypnosis and the Law of Attraction, the latter used correctly, are doing just the same thing. Engaging the unconscious.

How To Learn Hypnotism

Hypnotism or more commonly known as hypnosis, is a mental state or set of attitudes usually caused by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is composed of a series of preceding instructions and suggestions. Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist to a person or a subject (experiment), or may be self suggested (auto suggestion). In this article I'm going to share with you one of the methods used by hypnotists so that you can get to know how to learn hypnotism.

5 Steps Guide: How To Learn Hypnotism

1. Use a smooth talking voice. This won't be your regular speaking voice but rather a tone you would use with a sleepy and tired child. The more relaxing and softer your voice, the faster you can hypnotize someone.

2. Have your subject take a deep breath, and slowly let it out. While she expels air, make her close her eyes. Then starting with the top of her body, talk to her silently so that you can bring her into a relaxed stage. For example, you can say, "Feel your shoulders. Relax your shoulders and feel them become heavier and heavier. They are loose. There is no tension in your shoulders."

3. Praise your subject in a comfortable voice at every step as this is the most important part. Hypnotism can be pretty scary for people who don't know what to expect next. Let your subject know everything is just fine and she's doing everything right and correct as it will help her to stay relaxed.

4. Continue with the first three steps until you know she is hypnotized. You might have to make her relax her body parts several times as most people may take about 10 minutes to enter a hypnotic state. Signs of hypnosis are: loose, droopy muscles; slightly twitching arms or legs; changes in breathing; or eyelids that flutter.

5. Make suggestions when she is hypnotized (hypnotic suggestions). The suggestions can be serious or humorous. In this stage, please be ethical to ask something from her or someone as that person will be in a "hypnotic trance" and easier to influence. When you are ready to release her from the hypnotic state, simply say, "When I count to three, you will open your eyes and feel refreshed and active. One, two, three."

Here's more quick tips:

• Hypnotic suggestions are the most important part in the process of getting to know how to learn hypnotism.

• Make sure your subjects are relaxed and focused while you're hypnotizing her or him.

• Don't be harsh or pressure your subjects to do something while he or she is in a hypnotic trance.

• Hypnotism is also related with Hypnosis Mind Control, another powerful psychological method.

Hypnotherapy For Hair Loss

There are many options available to treat hair loss such as medications, natural and home remedies and products. Hypnotherapy is one treatment that not everyone is interested in although it helps in treating hair loss.

Hypnotherapy works and the good thing about it is it is painless and there are no medications involved. It can be done by yourself or by a therapist. Give it a try if you prefer natural treatment for your hair.

The common question asked by many is if hypnotherapy works in hair loss? The answer is yes. Thus, hypnotherapy is used to treat many medical conditions so it will work on hair loss too. This is because hair can stop falling by using our mind power.

Hypnotherapy is common in using with other treatments. The treatment is more to focus. For example, imagining your hair is growing with the exposure of the sun or hair follicles is in your scalp by the root. No matter what is asked for you to imagine or visualize, it can work within just 4 sessions.

It is still unsure and is still being researched on why hypnotherapy can treat hairloss effectively but some suggested that by focusing, it helps to improve our immune system. On the other hand, some reasoned that hair can grow because of the stimulation due to the blood flow to the head.

There are a few benefits for hair loss hypnotherapy. The top benefit on the list is that it is natural because no medication or other chemicals that are involved. It is also believed that hypnotherapy is more effective compare to consuming supplements and vitamins.

Other than that, hypnotherapy treatment brings no side effects compare to other treatments. The best thing about no pain and no side effects is that patients are not as anxious or nervous about this treatment. Thus, it does not lead to any stress!

Although hypnotherapy is not seen as a main treatment for losing your crowning glory, it is one of the best treatments due to its benefits. Choosing hypnotherapy means that you debunk the saying of "no pain, no gain" as hypnotherapy is painless and you still get your hair back.

But ultimately, whether that service is suitable for you or not only you can tell. If the service being offered in where you are staying does not have a proven track record, then probably you may want to try other methods of addressing your hair loss problems. But if you want to go ahead with hypnotherapy, then ask around for the best expert in town.

Harry Lowrence is a freelance writer and is keen on a number of subject areas. He has also written about home-made hair loss remedies and treatment of hair loss using minoxidil.

How To Do Instant Self Hypnosis

Hypnotizing yourself is both fun and useful. But how can you actually do instant self hypnosis? Does it take years of practice or are there short cuts you can take to make the process as quick and easy as its name suggests?

Here's how you can get a head start with instant self hypnosis:

Find a quiet place.

Whilst it's possible to hypnotize yourself with background noise happening, it's easier without it. So find somewhere quiet where you're unlikely to be disturbed. Let others around you know if they're in the habit of knocking on your door or otherwise invading your personal space.

Close your eyes.

OK, make sure you're sitting or laying down first. But let your eyes close themselves. Start to breath deeply and let your whole body begin to relax...

Relax, bit by bit.

Especially when you're starting out it's a good idea to consciously relax your whole body. Work your way up from your toes or down from your head, it doesn't matter which. In your mind, address each part of your body in turn and ask it to relax, deeper than it's ever relaxed before. You'll be pleasantly surprised at just how deep a state of relaxation you can achieve this way.

Start on your hypnotic commands.

Hopefully you've already decided on a subject to tackle (if not, just enjoy relaxing this time).

Work on one subject at a time - it's better this way, especially when you're first starting - and repeat your hypnotic suggestions to yourself.

Make these suggestions positive: "I am thin and healthy" works better rather than "I am no longer overweight" because our minds struggle to process negative thoughts. Memorize a few similar suggestions and go through them a number of times in your head.

With each suggestion, do your best to picture an image in your mind's eye that fits the suggestion. So if you're working on losing weight, see yourself slimmer and wearing clothes that show off your new, slender, self. Visualize others congratulating you on achieving your target and maybe even asking for help to do the same themselves.

Repeat these suggestions several times each. Some people find it easier to go through them in turn, others find that repeating each suggestion a number of times works well - seven is often the number of repetitions chosen. Experiment to see which works best for you.

Then count yourself out of your hypnotic trance and back into the real world.

Self Hypnosis and Fractionation

One of the least applied secrets of self hypnosis is the principle of fractionation.

What is fractionation?

Fractionation is the process of moving in and out of an experience in order to go deeper into the experience.

Most physical trainers know to have their students go into a stretch, then come back out, then go into the stretch a little bit deeper. In many classes (karate, yoga, etc.), this is done a minimum of 3 times to help the student sink deeper into the stretch.

Stretching your mind and your emotions works in a similar way, but in this realm you do not have to be concerned with physical limitations. You can use fractionation to mentally and emotionally stretch yourself as far as you want to go.

Why learn fractionation?

If you want to increase relaxation, focus, emotional intelligence, or any trait, belief, attitude, etc. that is based off your mind or your emotions... one of the quickest, easiest, and safest ways is with fractionation.

If you really want to open up and expand your range of experience, fractionation is one of the best ways to do it.

How can you start to practice fractionation right now?

Fractionation can be done with virtually any emotion or mind-body state, but it is easy (and highly useful) to start with relaxation. Deep relaxation feels good and it brings a powerful level of clarity as well.

  1. Find a quiet place where you can sit and relax peacefully.
  2. Close your eyes... take deep, slow breaths... and focus in on the relaxation throughout your body. Gently pour all your awareness into the feelings of relaxation. Enjoy the relaxation. State to yourself: "Every time I go into a state of relaxation, I can go even deeper than I went the last time."
  3. Now open your eyes and imagine stepping out of the state for a moment... imagine yourself stepping back from that deep relaxation... imagine yourself observing the deep relaxation and noticing just how deep it is from a 3rd person perspective.
  4. Now close your eyes again and step back into the relaxation even deeper, as you breathe deeply and slowly. Notice how much deeper you can now go as opposed to the first time. Remind yourself that every time you go into a state of relaxation, you can go even deeper than you went before.
  5. Repeat this as many times as you like. You can spend just a few seconds, or several minutes sinking into relaxation every time you go in, come back out, then go back in a little bit deeper.

There are almost endless ways in which you can practice fractionation everyday. All you have to do is identify the state of mind (or belief, attitude, emotion, etc.) that you want to be able to experience more deeply, then practice stepping in and out of it. As you do, notice how you go a little deeper every time.

NLP Reframing Techniques

NLP reframing techniques have been known to have positive influences on anyone! They can make you see beyond what is obvious and can generally encourage you to be a better person. Applying these techniques are also quite easy, as long as you keep an open mind. If you want to learn more, read this article!

NLP Reframing Technique # 1: When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade.

This is sometimes called labeling. It encourages you to look at a negative (or even disastrous) situation from a positive point of view.

Let's say that you've been working on your essay on human rights when your computer suddenly reboots itself. And of course, as disastrous events usually go, you forgot to save your file. The easiest thing to do at this point would be to succumb to anger, get mad and maybe even break a few things.

But what NLP will encourage you to do is to take the whole thing as a learning experience. Now you know that you must save your word file every now and then, especially if you're working on something very important. Everyday is a learning experience.

NLP Reframing Technique # 2: It's All About The Context.

This method involves changing the context by which you understand a situation, and understanding how the said situation can be of use to you. For example, you've just learned that you have an older stepbrother. Instead of sulking over the whole family drama (you know better than that), think of how cool it is to have someone you can ask advice from or to have someone who can add a little excitement to your otherwise dull life.

NLP Reframing Technique # 3: Content Is Relative.

It's all about perception. One thing can mean another. It all depends on how you see a person, a thing or a situation.

Let's say you're a woman and you have a boyfriend who is too much of a cheapskate to buy you flowers and chocolates. Instead of seeing a cheapskate, see a person who knows that material things aren't the way to a woman's heart. See that this person knows that there are far more important things in life than flowers and chocolates. See that this person would rather shower you with his utmost attention than to let something bought do the talking for him!

NLP reframing techniques can change the way you look at the world and change the way the world looks at you!

Discover the ultimate NLP practitioner training that allows anyone to master NLP in just 2 hours! Go to http://www.squidoo.com/nlp-practitioner-training to know more about this NLP breakthrough.

Change Your Life With NLP

There are a lot of things in life that can cause us to worry and there are also a lot of challenges in life that we want to overcome. In fact, we always want to live a happy and abundant life and we also want to reach our goals and realize our dreams. If you want to learn some techniques to help you with all these, you may want to explore the benefits of neuro-linguistic programming or NLP.

Neuro-linguistic programming or NLP is an approach in psychotherapy that actually involves your mind, your language, whether verbal or not, and how to program these factors to help you achieve the life that you have always wanted. Indeed, you can change your life with NLP.

NLP can actually help you develop your behavioral competence, improves your strategic thinking and understanding of what is behind your behavior. Some of the benefits of this psychotherapy technique include programming your mind to help eliminate self-doubt, improve confidence, turn your thoughts into positive ones and getting rid of counterproductive thoughts that have been buried deep in your subconscious.

This approach towards healing and changing your life actually helps you in finding ways to train your conscious as well as your subconscious mind to think the way you want it. If you are interested on how to change your life with NLP, here are a few things that you might want to know if you are aiming to change your life with NLP.

NLP techniques are often used to help you change the negatives in your life. By eliminating limiting thoughts, you can increase your confidence as well as some factors that will eventually help you achieve your goals and take advantage of the opportunities that come your way without fear or anxiety. It will greatly help you as well in turning yourself into a positive thinker. Being positive can indeed bring a lot of good things into your life.

Aside from all these, neuro-linguistic programming can also help you improve your communications with loved ones, friends and the people around you, thereby improving your relationships as well. If you are suffering from unhealthy eating habits, you can also help tame your eating habits with NLP.

With NLP, you can also overcome learning difficulties as well as anxieties in math or in taking examinations. It helps as well in relieving you from stress and tension as well as overcoming migraines and headaches brought about by such stimuli.

Hypnosis and Christianity - Is It Compatible?

As a Hypnotherapist and a Christian myself, I am aware that many Christians feel that hypnotherapy is at odds with Christianity but the way I see it, hypnotherapy is a method of healing and, as such, it is in my heart to do it.

As I understand it, the fear held by many is that, by opening one's mind and accessing the subconscious, one is potentially allowing evil in. Of course, as in any profession, (including the Church), there will be some who would abuse the privilege of their position and, sadly, hypnotherapy is no exception to this. However, I feel that it is important not to lose sight of the fact that hypnotherapy is a form of healing, and that with knowledge and wisdom it is easily differentiated from real evil. In fact, I believe that hypnotherapy actually works in much the same way as any other form of Spiritual healing but, as it does not discriminate by way of religious belief, it is simply available to a wider range of people.

I hope to offer some reassurance by making the following points;

Firstly, it is impossible for someone under hypnosis to behave in a way that is alien to them; their full cooperation is always needed for the hypnotherapy to be effective, so they have ultimate control at all times.

Secondly, the state of hypnosis is perfectly natural and simply involves accessing a state that occurs spontaneously on a daily basis; when we are about to fall asleep and upon waking. If there were a real risk of allowing evil in by this method we would be at risk, on average, twice a day!

Finally, I have a strong conviction that I am on this Earth doing the job I have been given and have been equipped to do. I see myself as being "out there" with all people; hippies, "New-Agers", Christians, atheists and pagans alike, and feel able to speak in a language that doesn't instantly turn them off. Besides which, I view every man, woman and child on this Earth as my brother or sister in Christ and, in line with my Christian principles, feel privileged to be in a position to offer healing, in the form of Hypnotherapy, to anyone who needs it, without discrimination.

About Susceptibility To Hypnosis

Susceptibility to hypnosis is the capacity of going into a hypnotic trance. Most hypnotists believe that the vast majority of the population can be hypnotized rather easily. It depends mainly on the emotional state of hypnosis subject and few other factors. Often the same person who enters into a deep trance very quickly have problems with getting hypnotized just few days later. It also works in opposite way. A person who has difficulty with getting relaxed lose them completely after their first hypnotic trance.

It should be noted that people who learn how to consciously enter into hypnotic trance enters it with less effort each time they use their hypnosis technique. Of course this is not a rule. One of the hypnotherapists states that about 5% of population cannot be hypnotized at all and just 25% can get in the deepest trance. According to him all the rest reaches different intermediate states of hypnosis. Other specialists and hypnotherapists achieves much better results which may be the result of a better approach to hypnotized person. For example Bernheim - claims that at the hospital 80% of the patients attained the state of deep hypnosis, while from the people hypnotized privately only 20%.

Susceptibility to hypnosis is not dependent on gender, education and intelligence. By contrast, it depends on:
- Age - from 5 to 17 years, somewhat higher than in other age groups
- The relationship between the hypnotist and hypnosis subjects (prejudices and animosities creates bad prognosis)
- Subject's ideas on idea of hypnosis and value of the hypnotist.

It is worth noting that those who are somnambulists (sleeping deep, having difficulty distinguishing waking from sleep, walking in sleep) are very susceptible to hypnosis and easily fall in deep trance.

Required depth of trance.
Required depth of trance should be understood as the plan to implement suggestions structured according to the level of difficulty. This means that the command that are more difficult for hypnotized ought to be passed in the greater depth a trance. In addition, hypnotherapists use selected suggestions to determine the depth of trance. These are appropriately selected suggestions that are not too difficult to implement.

Two commonly used scales for the depth of trance.
- Descriptive Scale.

According to Forel hypnosis can be divided into three main stages:
- Light (i.e. somnolence sleepiness - is characterized by fatigue, and relaxation).
- Average (light sleep) - hypnotized subject can not open your eyes, but does not lose memory.
- Deep-(somnambulism, or deep sleep) - subject can open your eyes in a trance, speak and walk.

There are few easy ways to check how deep you can hypnotize yourself. See three basic hypnosis tests in hypnosis how to post which is continuation of this article.

Who Can Be Hypnotised?

If you want to learn hypnosis undoubtedly one of the most important points you need to understand fully is, how to recognise when a person is hypnotised. It's easy to learn hypnosis, anyone can learn to become a good hypnotist. However, without a true understanding of the 'signs of hypnosis' you will never become a successful hypnotist. Take time to learn hypnosis correctly and you will be amazed at what you can achieve.

What happens with many people who learn hypnosis is they never learn the signs of hypnosis, so their success as a hypnotist is in doubt every time they try to hypnotise a subject. After a while many of these people form the opinion hypnosis is unreliable so they slowly give up using it. Hypnosis is reliable, providing you learn hypnosis correctly. It is most unfortunate that many, many, hypnosis teachers/courses don't understand hypnosis fully either, and therefore turn out poorly trained and informed hypnotists.

You can learn hypnosis and learn to hypnotise anybody providing the following 3 following basic requirements can be met...

1. There must be a channel of communication between the subject and the hypnotist. Obviously this is normally speech. However, a deaf person can still be communicated with so they are not excluded from being hypnotized. As a point of interest, it's not necessary to have a person close their eyes to enter hypnosis so sign-language can be used to hypnotise a deaf person. Learn hypnosis in depth and you will learn that there is no way in which you cannot hypnotise a person.

2. The ability to follow instructions. The subject must be able to follow the simple instructions presented by the hypnotist.

3. Consent. Hypnosis is a consent state. Therefore a person can only be hypnotised if they give their consent.

Providing these 3 requirements are met a person can be hypnotised. Age, gender, or social skills make no difference. As you learn hypnosis you will quickly discover some people are more apt to accept suggestions quicker than others, and are therefore able to obtain a deep state of hypnosis in less time than others.

Hypnosis occurs when a subject's critical factor is by passed and a selective thought is accepted by their mind. The critical factor of the mind is an aspect that develops during our forming years. Therefore children are extremely easy to hypnotise. In fact it's likely that virtually every child has been hypnotised many times by the age of 5 years, and mostly by their mother.

If you think this sounds a little suspect ask yourself this question. "As a child did you ever hurt a finger and ask your mother to kiss it better, and when she kissed it the discomfort just disappeared?" This was a bypass of your critical factor, and by implication, the implanting of a selective thought. This would more correctly be refereed to as waking hypnosis. However, most hypnotists would not even recognise that the finger kiss is actually hypnosis. Learn hypnosis in depth and you will understand that much of our behaviour as an adult is due being hypnotised as a child.

NOTE: Since first writing this short article, many people have asked me if it's possible to hypnotise a drunk person. The answer is simple, yes, if they can meet the 3 conditions above. BUT, they will still be drunk! Furthermore, you can't sober them up any quicker by using hypnosis.
