Is Hypnosis Here To Stay?

Is hypnosis a fad or has it become the trend? Hypnosis has reached a new level of respect and is now used everywhere in the world. People find it easier and safer than most conventional methods to reach their goals and solve their problems. Simply learning to use your altered state of consciousness can make big changes fast in your life.

Hypnosis used as hypnotherapy is now widely accepted everywhere, which is now commonly used as a therapy to solve people's problems. People find it easier, safer and less expensive than the past conventional methods of pills, surgeries, diets and long term therapy which is all very expensive. Hypnosis is simply an altered state of consciousness using your mind power to change habits, heal, reach goals and so much more.

Hypnosis, properly used, is accepted by nearly every religion in the world except some Christian Scientists and those individuals that simply don't understand hypnosis. Those individuals relate to the old late night horror shows of one being hypnotized, looking like a deer staring into the headlights as some kind of mind control. There is no mind control and you are always in control and will never do anything against your beliefs, morals or desires. And when I mean accepted, I mean the Pope himself, released a statement of his approval of the proper use of hypnosis, in the 1950's and God used it on Adam to remove his rib so he wouldn't feel any pain, to make woman. Nearly all health organizations use hypnotherapy in their daily practice, including hospitals everywhere, the Mayo Clinic and most doctors, chiropractors, dentists, etc. as well as ministers and law enforcement.

While hypnosis is more popular today than ever before and has reached a whole new respect in just the last decade, is still highly misunderstood by many. Some of you are already thinking that they don't remember anything being said in the Bible about God hypnotizing Adam. You're right, it doesn't use that word hypnosis because the word hypnosis is a Greek word that was coined by a Scottish surgeon, Dr. James Braid, from Manchester, England, in 1841, meaning sleep. However, when he realized it was not sleep at all, he tried to change the word to monoideism and it never caught on. People loved the word hypnosis too much. For those that truly understand and recognize hypnosis, recognizes it throughout the Bible. Hypnosis is mentioned more than a thousand times throughout the Bible according to the organization of ministers that are certified hypnotherapists.

I've been a certified hypnotherapist for more than 17 years and worked with people from all walks of life and I still hear the same comments and same questions from everyone. The most common question is, does it really work? It does and still amazes me to this very day. It works even if you don't believe it will work. For those that don't believe it will work and don't really try or is willing to listen to their cd for reinforcement at all, will normally fail at it. These are the most negative people with a negative attitude about everything in their life. Does it really work? Like magic! If I didn't think so, I would not have walked across a long bed of red hot coals barefooted or the big bed of smashed broken glass barefooted. No, I did not even have a red mark on either foot. I also underwent surgery to repair a hianial hernia(not sure how to spell it but it was a large tear just above the belly button) using only hypnosis, staying awake and talking to staff through the procedure. Yes, it does work and very well. It is easy and so simple. Most think it could not work if it is as easy as I say, but it is. The most common comments I get in nearly every group session to this day is, are we going to bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken? I respond with, do you want to bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken? So far, no one has.

People are hypnotized everyday without realizing it. If you don't want to be hypnotized and are really too afraid of it for whatever your reason may be, then don't watch TV, meditate or pray for more than a few seconds, or sit in any meetings, getting too relaxed and listening to what the speaker has to say, like church, or take any time in falling asleep or waking up or relaxing while you drive down that long stretch of highway and don't believe anything anyone tells you or ever get very relaxed. You need to stay wide awake until you fall asleep fast and as soon as you wake up, jump out of bed and get that physical mind to start thinking about your day. This list should keep you from being hypnotized on a daily basis. I hope you realize that if you should follow this advice to keep from being hypnotized, your quality of life will depreciate drastically. Except for the watching TV, I don't encourage anyone to watch TV. TV is very negative and the media makes people believe the world is a mess and everything is just terrible and too many people believe it, talk it and live it. If you want to change your life and make improvements, cut out the negativity out of your life, especially the news. Why were there more millionaires made during the Great Depression than any other time? They refused to subject themselves to the negativity around them and focused on opportunities, the positive. Your world, your life you live is but a reflection of your inner world. It all starts within, your mind. You can believe the world is awful and it will be or you can believe it is a wonderful place of opportunity, love and adventure and it will be. Your life is what you make it. It all starts within your own mind. No matter what you think you can or can't do, if you think you can or if you think you can't, you're right!

People are becoming more aware of their own spirituality and the power of their mind within to use it more wisely. With so many books and movies available now, on how much control we have over our own health, lives, finances, destiny, etc., with the proper use of our own mind, we can change anything. We are all constantly living in a state of self-hypnosis. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, whether guided by another or yourself. The Universal Law of Attraction works with you all the time, without fail. Hypnosis as hypnotherapy is evidently now a trend.

Origin, Theories & History of Hypnosis

Origin of hypnosis dates back to the time when man started interacting as a social creature and realized the benefits that can be reaped from influencing other people's beliefs and actions in their favour. History of all major cultures around the globe is dotted with anecdotes of the use of hypnosis in one way or other, though it was not recognized or acknowledged as such till the beginning of the last century.

The incessant chant of "Om" and other mantras during the Vedic period of the Hindus (still practiced all over India) produced hypnotic trance in the devotees. The witch doctors of the middle ages and the mass faith healing sessions of the religious sects and the miracle healing communes of the so called 'God men' mistook the hypnotic trance produced in the suggestible, receptive devotees as a sign of the ultimate spiritual attainment. It is also no secret that many of these religious rituals utilized herbal psychotropic drugs to enhance the psychedelic experiences of the devout.

Charismatic political leaders of the modern era often put their listeners into a hypnotic trance through their forcible oratory skills. Personalities like Hitler and Saddam had skillfully manipulated the resulting highly suggestive and receptive state of their followers to further advance their political and genocidal agenda.

The history of hypnosis with regard to its origin and theories is an eventful and fascinating one and calls for at least a cursory review here.

The Animal Magnetism Theory: The distinct concept of hypnosis was created by the charismatic 18th century Austrian healer Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815). He believed he could "store" animal magnetism as a 'cosmic fluid' in inanimate objects like iron filings or magnets and transfer it to patients to cure them of illnesses. Later he discarded the magnets and started using his own body as the store of the healing force. His success in inducing the trance(though not recognized as such), made mesmerism a cult around the world. It is indeed the forerunner of hypnotic suggestion.

The Electric Theory: Mesmer's disciple, the Marquis de Puysegur, who introduced a new twist that the cosmic fluid was not magnetic but electric and that it was present in all living beings, including plants. His healing sessions were conducted in the natural environment.

In the mid 1800s, a leading English physician, John Elliotson used the trance state to perform 1,834 surgeries painlessly. In India, during the same period, James Esdaile, a Scottish surgeon, performed many major and complicated surgeries like amputation of limbs using the 'magnetic sleep' as the only anaesthesia.

Nervous Sleep or Hypnosis: It was in the late 19th century that James Braid finally gave mesmerism a scientific explanation. He explained mesmerism to be a nervous type of sleep and coined the term hypnosis, derived from the Greek word hypnos, meaning sleep. Braid recognised hypnosis as a state of exaggerated suggestibility.

The phenomenon of divided mind: Pierre Janet saw hypnosis as a "dissociation" phenomenon, where a group of dissociated memories might develop into a second personality.

Jean-Martin Charcot (1825-1893), leading French neurologist of his day, regarded hypnosis as a pathological state of artificial hysteria.

Freud explained that a sort of paralysis of the will and power of movement took place in hypnosis. He thought that the power of hypnosis resided in the paralysis produced by the influence of an omnipotent person, on a defenceless, impotent subject!

Acceptance of hypnosis in medicine that we have today is largely owed to the efforts of pioneers in the experimental study of hypnosis, starting in the early 20th century. Foremost among the researchers were Clark Hull and his student, Milton Erickson. Hull's 1933 discussion of scientific research into hypnosis (Hypnosis and Suggestibility) is still considered a classic among scientific literature on hypnosis.

1935 saw the birth of medical hypnotherapy through important advances in the medical use of hypnosis. Milton Erickson (1901-1980) started using hypnosis on a large scale in his patients. He practiced and established many successful induction techniques like metaphor and indirect hypnosis.

Theodore Sarbinin in 1950 pioneered the 'sceptical' modern concept of hypnosis. Hypnosis was considered as a social-psychological alternative to the views that (1) a single distinctive neurological and psychological state underlies all hypnotic phenomena (Paris school of thought), and (2) that suggestions somehow mechanically produce responses without the participation of the subject (Nancy school).

In addition to Erickson and Hull, modern scientific research into hypnosis has been advanced through a period of intense experimental research in the late 1950's and early 1960's by notables such as J.P Sutcliffe, T.X. Barber, M.T.Orne, E.R. Hilgard and R.E. Shor. The work of these researchers had been particularly influential on the current scientific view of hypnosis, especially in the context of medical hypnotherapy.

How Hypnotherapy Can Unravel Our Tangled Webs

When it comes to hypnotherapy north west areas of the UK have been benefiting from a surge in interest, as well as a significant increase in the overall understanding of what hypnotherapy in Cheshire and the surrounding areas is all about. Hypnotherapy has certainly gained a great deal of mainstream attention and interest over the last few years, and it is certainly easy to see why.

For those people suffering from long-term issues such as anxiety, depression or stress, having to take pills or tablets for rest of their lives is simply not an acceptable option. Dulling the symptoms is not the way to solve a problem, and this kind of solution would certainly not be considered acceptable in many other areas. If you broke your leg, it would not be considered acceptable to simply remove it; if your hair was getting a little too long, simply covering it up with a hat all time would also be considered foolish.

Dealing with symptoms is only really effective when the causes of those symptoms are understood, and dealt with directly. This is what the medical profession does well in most areas, but still does very poorly when it comes to mental health and mental well-being. The medical profession all too easily and quickly hands over tablets and medication to help deal with the symptoms of stress, depression or anxiety, without taking the time to dig deep enough to find out what is really causing those symptoms.

This is why when it comes to hypnotherapy north west areas of the country, especially Cheshire, have been benefiting from a real breath of fresh air. Hypnotherapy has been seeing a significant growth in interest, understanding and awareness for several years now, but it seems that hypnotherapy in Cheshire has received considerably more attention just lately than anywhere else, which has in turn meant that people's awareness of what hypnotherapy in that area can do has grown substantially.

Hypnotherapy is able to deal with a wide range of problems and issues which people may have, ranging from short term problems to long-term ones. Short-term problems might relate to stress or anxiety relating to a forthcoming event or experience, such as taking an aeroplane flight, sitting an examination, having an interview, making a public appearance, or other situation in which the patient may feel uncomfortable or overly anxious or stressed.

But for many people hypnotherapy is the only effective way to deal with long-term stress or depression, and it is only through hypnotherapy that long-term, sustainable success can be achieved. Indeed, hypnotherapy has a remarkably high level of success, a level which would be considered extraordinary in the medical profession.

Trained hypnotherapists are able to help people work backwards in order to identify the root causes of the anxieties or problems which they are currently experiencing. People are extremely complex, and throughout our lives we are constantly adding to our experiences, and our understanding of the world, relationships and ourselves. Every relationship, and almost every experience has an impact upon our understanding of the world and of ourselves, and it is this collective experience and understanding which largely dictates our responses and attitudes to future experiences and relationships.

But this can work both for and against us, because negative experiences in our past, which may even be forgotten, may still be impacting negatively on current and future experiences and relationships, controlling our responses even without us really being aware that they are doing so. When it comes to hypnotherapy north west areas such as Cheshire are discovering that this complex bundle of experiences and understandings can be unpackaged and unravelled in a way which enables us to rebuild who we are, and improve the way in which we experience the world in future.

Life Between Lives Regression

You may have never heard of a life between lives regression, or LBL, but it can be a powerful tool to help you find out more about yourself, your purpose, and the meaning of your own life. By working with the right consulting hypnotist, you can see several benefits from LBL.

A life in between lives is the time you spent as a soul, before you had your current physical body, and were simply a part of the spiritual world. To get from the spiritual world to your current physical state, you had to forget everything that you knew and experienced in the spiritual world. While you may not remember your life as a soul, your experiences during that time are stored in your subconscious mind - and they play a role in your current behavior.

During a life between lives regression, you are in a deep hypnotic trance - usually for about 3 or 4 hours - and are taken back in time. Normally, an LBL starts with you accessing memories of your childhood, and then works backwards to your time in the womb, to your past lives, and to your time between lives. At each stage, you will likely experience scenes and memories that your conscious mind does not remember.

During your LBL, you might meet your "Council of Elders", or the other souls that have incarnated with you over the years. Usually, a group of souls spend many lifetimes together. Your group has played a role in each of your lives in an effort to help you develop and evolve. Good or bad, the people who have played the biggest roles in your current life likely have played a role in your spiritual existence as well.

But what can you really get out of an LBL? Aren't you better off not knowing about prior experiences that could be painful?

No. In fact, it's just the opposite.

Studying your life in between lives can give you powerful information that can help you thrive. A successful LBL can:

  • Help you unlock powerful memories, which can help you understand why you chose to live in your current body. By learning more about your past, you will realize why you are here, and potentially what the meaning of your life is.
  • Help you emerge from your trance even more committed to living up to your life's purpose. Reliving even the bad memories can help identify the reasons you are here, in your current life. Instead of being sad or angry about experiences in your soul life, you can feel a renewed sense of commitment.
  • Help you evolve. By leaning more about your past and the souls who played a major role in it, you can have healthier relationships in your current life. And, you can be better-equipped to handle any adversity that comes your way.

What Can Hypnosis Do?

Hypnosis can provide numerous benefits for you... in the many ways that you live your life. Hypnosis is a powerful tool that can work to help you accomplish desired change.

What Do You Want in Your Life?

* Would you like to stop smoking... but are struggling to succeed?
* Do you want to lose weight... but find old habits get in the way?
* Have you wished you could eat healthfully... but fall back on junk-food choices?
* Are you stymied about how to reduce the effects of stress... and don't know where to begin?
* Are you extremely negative... and don't believe you could ever possibly change this?

If any of these experiences "speak out" to you, you might want to investigate Hypnosis!

How Can You Best Benefit from Hypnosis?

When you are determined to take charge in your life, you establish a powerful preliminary attitude for getting top benefits from Hypnosis. When you are firm about taking responsibility for your life - and for solving the problems in your life - you are putting yourself into the best frame-of-mind to have Hypnosis work well for you!

Actually, the possibilities of what Hypnosis can do - the benefits that it can create in your life - are limited only by your ability to define what you want! Truly the possibilities are endless.

Hypnosis helps you to focus your mind specifically on the outcomes you want in your life. In addition, Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help you achieve these outcomes.

How Does Hypnosis Work with Your Subconscious Mind?

Hypnosis is a state of mind. In the hypnotic state of mind, you are relaxed in body, while your mind is aware and alert. This allows your subconscious mind - the deep part of your mind - to spring into action.

Your subconscious mind - by its very nature - brings into reality that which you are thinking. Your subconscious mind takes your thoughts - the contents of your mind - and creates them in your life. It is principle by which self-fulfilling prophecy operates.

By the principle of self-fulfilling prophecy, whatever you think about an event, you get to be right! It doesn't matter what you think, by virtue of your thoughts, you create the very outcomes that those thoughts describe!

This is powerful!

It points out the need to pay very close and particular attention to that which you are thinking! Since your subconscious mind stands to create it, it is important that you watch carefully over the direction of that creation.

In other words, it is important that you closely monitor your thoughts. Hypnosis provides a pathway to assert that careful monitor over your thoughts! Hypnosis also provides clarity in the direction of those thoughts. Hypnosis is designed to create thoughts - in the form of suggestions - specifically tailored to the outcomes that you want to see become a part of your life!

It is a process of positive mental conditioning.

What Can You Accomplish with Positive Mental Conditioning?

Hypnosis can be used to dramatically improve attitude, outlook, skills, memory and comprehension, focus and concentration, creativity, as well as a whole host of other results. Hypnosis can assist in improving personal well-being. It can help with such skills as anger management, stress management, time management, and goal achievement.

Hypnosis has also been found to help its subjects alleviate fears and phobias - including fears of the dark, of heights, of closed spaces, of insects. Since these phobias reside in the deeper areas of the mind, Hypnosis can be the perfect vehicle to use to get to them and "weed" them out..

Through the use of Hypnosis, those fears are accessed and altered. Using hypnotic techniques irrational thoughts and fears can be eradicated. Once this occurs, more productive, neutral and/or healthy perspectives toward the stimuli are left behind.

What Can You Do from Here?

I invite you to explore these ideas over and over to find out for yourself how Hypnosis might help YOU... make effective changes in your life!

And I encourage you to get your copy of the newly-published, highly-acclaimed HYPNOSIS ESSENTIALS: Power Up Your Life! Fighting The Fat With Hypnosis

There has been a debate that has been ongoing over how hypnosis really works. This article will not talk about that. This article will mainly focus on a certain problem that hypnosis has been proven to be effective and that would be weight loss. This article would also touch on how hypnosis will work and by the time you are done reading, you should have the understanding on how you could lose weight by hypnosis and be more confident that the said approach could help you in your dilemma.

Why would you try to lose weight? While it would be good for you that you realize you need to lose the extra pounds, it is just as important that you understand why. The simplest answer to this would be that you can never stop eating. You should understand that there is a difference, a very big one, between being hungry and having a big appetite. Even if you are already full, you still tend to continue eating. The reason for this may well be because you just love food that much but it could also be due to stress.

Stress is due to your physical responses to various triggers. These triggered could be events in your life that could range from traumatic to just mundane. When you feel like you are overworked, that could already be stress. When you are stressed out, you are tired. Because of need, you would want to continue working that would cause your body to release adrenalin to support your already worn out body. And because of that you would likely overeat just to regain energy.

This is where hypnosis would come in. This would be the perfect point when you want to lose weight by hypnosis that is. You should already know that stress is usually cured with relaxation and that would be perfect for hypnosis since relaxation is an essential part of hypnosis. Your mind should be focused on your goals before you could become hypnotized. This trance would bring about relaxation to your body while your mind is working at full speed. From that point, your thinking process would be changed through the use of affirmations which are positively themed sentences that are repeatedly said to you.

Hypnosis would work on a person's thought process which could help him or her stop eating too much. Also, hypnosis would help in rewiring your brain so that you would see the world in different light thereby preventing stress response which is mainly caused by your negative reactions to perceived threats. If you would want to lose weight by hypnosis, you could see a professional help you. You could not only lose the extra pounds but also hypnosis could help with stress.
