Hypnosis for Migraine Headaches

The idea of migraine hypnotherapy might seem like a contradiction in terms. How does your subconscious affect the physical nature of your body? How does the mind control pain? Often a common over the counter pill does the trick when it comes to headaches. Migraines, however, are much more than a mere headache.

Migraines are incapacitating, as anyone who has ever suffered from one will tell you. There are medications and other forms of treatment for migraines but in spite of these ways of dealing with migraines, some people are out of commission days due to this dreadful headache. To understand why hypnosis is one of the most successful treatments for migraines it is helpful to understand the nature of migraines.

Migraines are triggered by changes in your body that can be set off by stress, medications, certain foods, poor sleep patterns, and other factors that vary from individual to individual. The symptoms include debilitating pain. This can include nausea and vomiting which may be the body's reaction to the pain that seems to throb throughout the entire body. Light can also negatively affect migraine sufferers and they often need to lie still in the dark to alleviate the discomfort.

Since migraines can last for days and since they often seem impervious to pain medications, it is imperative that a faster and more effective treatment be utilized. Migraine hypnosis has been studied and shown to be highly effective - more than three times the people treated with hypnosis stopped having migraines than those who stopped having migraines after being given the prescription medication prochlorperazine.

Prochlorperazine is used for treating mental and emotional disorders, such as psychotic disorders including schizophrenia. It controls severe nausea and vomiting and moderate to severe pain. Basically it covers the painful side effects of a migraine. Speaking of side effects, the side effects of prochlorperazine include body and facial tics.

Hypnosis on the other hand does not have side effects. It is also a lot easier on your body than any heavy-duty medications. The relaxation techniques included in migraine hypnosis work on the stress factor and other such triggers. Hypnosis can help with techniques that circumvent your usual migraine inducing elements.

Besides being less expensive and less dangerous than medication, migraine hypnosis is more effective. It reaches into your subconscious and works on helping you develop ways of getting around the stress and habits that cause migraines. If you suffer from migraine headaches, you owe it to yourself to try migraine hypnotherapy.

The Story of Ericksonian Hypnosis

Since thousands of years ago, hypnosis has been used to some extent in every culture. It has been used by many doctors thorough the years but it has not always been considered a viable means of assistance. The world of psychology got very interested in hypnosis and used it with some amount of success.

Currently there is a very famous means of hypnotizing people known as Ericksonian hypnosis. It has many applications.

What Is The Difference Between Ericksonian Hypnosis And Traditional Hypnosis?

When people think about hypnosis they always imagine a very typical image of a hypnotherapist giving strong commands to people in a semi conscious state or sometimes in deep trance. This is not the case of Milton Erickson's discovery.

Milton Erickson was a poor man born in 1902. He grew up in a rural environment. Nobody could have imagined that this man would invent some kind of hypnosis. He received a very bad education and he was indeed color blind, dyslexic and tone deaf. Not the image of someone who would then create Ericksonian hypnosis, and become very well famous.

He contracted polio at the age of seventeen. This left him paralyzed. His parents, who were very poor, doing the best they could, tied him to a chair during the day, while they went to work, and he was left in the house. As Milton could not move, he spent most of his time watching people's movements and their body language. He realized that people had some kind of subtle body language and that our bodies can communicate things that we do not want. He also liked to visualize himself moving, walking or playing outside. He could even move his chair when he was in such a deep state of concentration. He also noticed his baby sister's movements and he started imitating her, until he could walk himself.

Thanks to this success, he could develop Ericksonian hypnosis. In this kind of hypnosis the hypnotist gives indirect suggestions instead of direct ones as it is the case in classical hypnosis. The Ericksonian hypnosis approach can use both deep trance state and storytelling.

In Ericksonian hypnosis through storytelling, a general topic is used over and over in order for the subconscious mind to pick up the messages the hypnotist is trying to send.

This kind of hypnosis is in a very wide use these days. There are different approaches and methods to using it both during trance states and through story telling.

Even some people report that Ericksonian hypnosis has worked for them in cases when classical hypnosis has failed.

How Self Hypnosis Works

As children, we had the ability to concentrate on a specific task without all of the "messiness" and distractions in our subconscious that we have today. Think about it - we all agree that we get smarter as we age but a baby that is less then a year old can learn complicated actions like walking, talking, eating with a spoon, etc. For the poor souls that have to relearn such actions after a serious accident when they are older, it takes them much longer. As we age, we learn things like when you fall, you get hurt, and it is difficult to ignore such ingrained beliefs. By using self-hypnosis to clear our subconscious, you can give yourself a different way to train your brain and learn a new action that you once thought impossible. It is the subconscious that is responsible for shaping a person's personality and emotional drive.

The technique of hypnosis has been around for a while. We all remember the pocket watch dangling in front of someone's eyes slowly swaying back and forth. But the real goal is to use self-hypnosis as a therapeutic technique to cure ourselves of whatever might be holding us back in our well-being. This might be any number of things like smoking, being overweight, a fear of public speaking, being overly shy, etc. By using hypnosis, you are able to concentrate on a specific thought in order to change your habits.

Anyone can be hypnotized but its effectiveness depends on how much you will allow yourself to accept the hypnosis process. Regardless, the process of hypnotizing oneself is fairly simple. The hypnosis process centers around several basic steps. It is the way that these steps are achieved that differs from technique to technique. The first step in the hypnosis process is to achieve complete relaxation. The mind is capable of many different levels of "sleep". The state of sleep that you are in when you hear your alarm clock in the morning is much different than when you are under anesthesia and are undergoing an operation. The level of relaxation that is required for hypnosis is somewhere between being awake and being asleep. The second step in the hypnosis process is to concentrate on a phrase, an idea, or a suggestion. This is a more heightened state of concentration than you practice on a normal day. Once these steps are achieved, you will become immobile during hypnosis. You will also experience a heightening of all five of your senses. It is called "hyperawareness" and it happens naturally when a person is able to increase their concentration during complete relaxation. You will also experience REM, or rapid eye movement. This does not mean that you are technically asleep. Under self-hypnosis you are able to wake yourself up at any given time, which is not the case when you are normally sleeping.

The key to using self-hypnosis to change your bad habits or struggles is to allow your willpower to push you into submission. Your subconscious provides the initial momentum to do something but it is your consciousness that provides the willpower. Without willpower big changes in your thinking would not be possible. Hypnosis itself would not be possible without the willpower and commitment to try it until you are successful.

How To Stop Nail Biting With Hypnosis From HypnoBusters

In my role as a web developer for HypnoBusters I have noticed a few certain trends recently in regards to peoples’ use of hypnosis. For one many more people seem to be more comfortable experimenting with the effects of hypnosis, and once they do they often become repeat customers. Secondly our Nail Biting Hypnosis MP3 has become one of our very most popular sessions - and I think I know why.

From childhood I myself was a nail biter and it was through self hypnosis that I was finally able to put the nail in the coffin of the habit. Right there is why hypnosis has become such a popular form of treatment as a cure to nail biting, it actually works. Unlike a lot of the old wives’ tales that leave you with a bad taste in your mouth (often, in this case, quite literally) hypnosis has proven to be an effective form of behavioral modification.

The way that hypnosis works is both simple and complex at the same time. In layman’s terms though hypnosis helps to relax the conscious mind so that the subconscious can accept suggestions given to it by the hypnotherapist. In this case the suggestions would be made to help the client quit nail biting.

This is all well and good of course, but most people don’t have the money to hire a hypnotherapist to treat a bad habit like nail biting which is unhealthy but certainly not deadly like smoking or overeating. That is where websites like HypnoBusters come in. While I run the technical side of things we have a clinically trained hypnotherapist called Jon Rhodes who digitally records real hypnosis sessions into the MP3 format. Because one of these MP3s can be sold to multiple customers it allows us to sell them at much more affordable prices. For example our Nail Biting Hypnosis MP3 is currently just $9.95.

Like any tool though it is important to use a hypnosis MP3 in the right way to maximize the results. Whenever you listen to a hypnosis session you should be in a safe environment where you feel warm and comfortable, and won’t be disturbed for the duration of the session. Other than that, all you have to do is follow the hypnotherapist’s instructions and you will find that the time flies by. While you are in a hypnotic trance you aren’t asleep or unconscious, you are merely incredibly focused on what is being said to you. When the session is over you will feel very relaxed and probably remember bits and pieces of what was said to you. At HypnoBusters we recommend that you listen to our Nail Biting Hypnosis MP3 once a day for a period of a month. Should you ever find yourself slipping back into old habits after this period of time you can simply start the program again. Since you own the MP3 there is no extra cost to this, you can use it as much or as little as you want.

Now you know how to stop nail biting with hypnosis from HypnoBusters I hope you decide to give it a try. It really works.

Everything About Hypnosis

Hypnosis has become more popular in recent years. In fact, hypnosis is now being used more than just to help people overcome traumatizing events which cause depression and anxiety. Today, hypnosis is being utilized as a means to be able to help people reach a number of goals such as weight loss or quit smoking. If you are looking into trying this out, here are some things that would help you to better understand about hypnosis.

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis has been classified as a technique that is scientifically verified and proven to be effective in promoting changes in human behavior. It involves letting the person in a trance-like state in order to ensure that the client is relaxed. From here, thoughts, ideas and statements are then suggested by the professional conducting the hypnosis session.

How does Hypnosis Work?

As the mind is relaxed, the hypnotist is able to feed thoughts, ideas and statements directly into the subconscious part of the client's mind. This is important since it is the subconscious that normally dictates our behavior and attitudes as well as our personalities. As a result, hypnosis is able to alter your perceptions and way of thinking which is important in order for you to attain your desired goal.

Hypnosis is commonly used to help people who are generally depressed. This is because certain events in their lives leave a lasting impression and that shows in their behavior, causing them to feel more stressed out and eventually leading to them feeling depressed.

Another use of hypnosis is a means to alleviate pain. Hypnosis is today being used on patients undergoing therapy treatments, surgery, childbirth, and debilitating illnesses such as cancer. By providing positive and encouraging thoughts to the patient, studies have shown that patients who have undergone hypnosis sessions are more able to cope with pain brought about by the treatment as opposed to those who do not.

Benefits of Hypnosis

Apart from providing comfort during painful medical procedures, one of the benefits enjoyed by many people undergoing hypnosis is its ability to help them achieve their goals. Oftentimes, the reason why many are unable to achieve their goals is their perception that the road they would need to take is extremely difficult. By being able to change their way of thinking through hypnosis, they are more successful in achieving whatever goal they may have in their lives.

How To Use Hypnotherapy To Lose Weight

Before anything else, what exactly is hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy wherein a patient is subjected to the process of hypnosis. It is commonly used for the purpose of modifying the patient's behavior, actions, emotions, attitudes, as well as a slew of conditions such as negative habits, anxiety, illnesses caused by stress, emotional pain, and personal development issues. In the context of using it as a tool in losing weight, hypnotherapy enables the subject to be focused, relaxed and allows him or her to develop the right mindset towards achieving his/her weight loss goals.

There are many ways in which hypnotherapy can help a person achieve his goals of losing weight. These include the following.

1) Hypnotherapy develops a brand new image of yourself. Think of what you would look like in the future if you really lose weight. Keep the image in mind and make that your desired future. If you have a great picture of what or where you are going, this empowers you even more to work and strive towards it.

2) Hypnotherapy teaches you to be more relaxed and feel good about how weight loss and weight management is done. A lot of people fail to lose weight because they have the wrong or shall we say negative thoughts on what weight loss and weight management are really about.

3) Hypnotherapy makes you think about weight and diet in a positive light. One of the most common reasons why people fail to lose weight is that they worry too much about their weight that they lose focus on their weight loss programs or diets. Hypnotherapy ensures that you do not make this same mistake. Weight loss hypnosis stops you from worrying and focus instead on losing real weight and achieving your weight loss goals.

4) Hypnotherapy makes you feel better about yourself. Feeling better about yourself makes you more focused on whatever weight loss program or diet you have started using. This ensures more positive results.

In the simplest of terms, hypnotherapy makes use of the mind to help control the factors that cause you to gain weight such as unhealthy diets, lack of exercise and other factors.

For this weight loss technique to work, you need to have a hypnotherapist or simply a hypnotist. The hypnotherapist will be guiding you all the way through the process. He will be scheduling sessions with you so it is best that you attend every single session so as not to break the flow of the treatment. In many cases, the hypnotherapist will then teach and show you how to do hypnotherapy to your own self without the hypnotist's help. This way you will be able to go through sessions whenever and wherever you want without anybody's help.

Hypnotherapy has to come hand in hand with other weight loss techniques such as healthy and controlled diets and good exercise. It's the job of hypnotherapy to make sure that the person feels good and positive about these programs and that he/she follows them accordingly.

Using Hypnosis to Stop Smoking

Are you tired of your daily struggles with trying to stop smoking cigarettes? Are you tired of that increasingly worse hacking cough that you experience in the morning and the loss of your ability to climb a staircase without getting winded? Maybe you have known for a long time that you need to quit smoking cigarettes, but you know that quitting will be more of a struggle than coughing and being winded, and you are intimidated by what will happen to you if you try. By using self hypnosis to relieve yourself of your smoking habits you are able to bypass all of the negative experiences of going through the withdrawals of nicotine. You will not substitute your habit of smoking with another habit like eating. You will not get cranky or experience any of the other symptoms that so many cigarette smokers have gone through on their way to a healthier lifestyle.

Self hypnosis allows you to dip into your subconscious mind in order to train your mind to do the things that your willpower is struggling to accomplish on its own. How many times have you heard yourself or someone else say that they have a lack of willpower? You have a lack of willpower because it is your subconscious that controls your emotional drive and your habitual behaviors. Without your subconscious on board with the program to quit smoking, your willpower does not have a chance even if your conscious mind has already made the decision to quit smoking. Self hypnosis can help you to get your subconscious mind to go along with your conscious mind. By using self hypnosis you are using powerful motivators for wanting to quit smoking, which will overcome your desire to smoke.

Using self hypnosis to quit smoking requires you to enter into a complete state of relaxation. You will need to find a room or space on a daily basis that is quiet and void of distractions to practice complete relaxation. You must then formulate self hypnosis scripts of positive phrases that you will repeat to yourself over and over again during your relaxation. There are a few tips that you need to think about when you are creating your self hypnosis scripts. First off, always keep your phrases in the present and positive. Plus, remember to use the word "I" in your phrases. To help you to stop smoking you can use phrases like, "I am in control, cigarettes are not a part of my life", "I will not smoke for the rest of my life", or "I have made the decision not to smoke and I am happy with that decision."

Studies have shown that self hypnosis is one of the leading and most successful ways to quit smoking. By using self hypnosis to help you in your desire to stop smoking, you will find that your subconscious mind will soon absorb the idea, and within a few days, you will be living a smoke-free and healthy life once again.

Overcoming Bad Habits With Hypnosis

Everyone has at least one bad habit that they are aware of and would like to get rid of. Some smoke, others bite their nails, many overeat, and a number of people procrastinate to the point of never getting things done. It sounds almost unbelievable that there is one kind of treatment that can be used to successfully rid a person of any or all of these bad habits but time and time again hypnosis has been used to solve every one of these problems - and many more besides.

If you regularly watch The Ellen DeGeneres Show you may remember when she had famous hypnotist Paul McKenna as a guest. During the episode they discussed how Paul had helped Ellen to quit smoking. Ellen isn’t the only celebrity to harness the life changing power of hypnosis to overcome a bad habit either. Winona Ryder, Ashton Kutcher, Billy Joel Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have all used hypnosis to quit smoking while Lily Allen, Sophie Dahl and Geri Halliwell have lost weight thanks to hypnotic suggestions. It’s not just celebrities either, millions of people around the world have visited hypnotherapists or used hypnosis programs to achieve their goals.

There are some who are skeptical about the effects hypnosis has, and understandably so. For many years hypnosis was thought of as a “trick” you’d see at a stage show or as a kind of mind control. However the most recent scientific studies have all been very favorable towards hypnosis and its ability to create real life changes in the people who use it. One study in 2009 at Hull University showed that the effects of hypnosis are actually visible on a brain scan - certain areas are less active when hypnotized. In the UK the National Health Service has even started to employ hypnotherapists to help treat patients with IBS as well as relieve symptoms of pain.

“How does hypnosis actually help someone to overcome a bad habit though?”, you might ask. Well during the initial stages of the hypnotic process your subconscious mind is primed to receive and accept suggestions. Depending on your goals these suggestions could help you to quit smoking, lose weight, stop biting your nails or whatever else you wish to change. The hypnotist makes these suggestions and repeats them until they’re satisfied that they’ve got the message across. The subconscious is a very deep level of your mind which holds yours deepest desires. So by making suggestions to this part of your mind you are changing yourself at the core of your being.

How long this takes depends on the problem, the cause of the problem, and the experience and skill level of the hypnotherapist at work. For example, with a hypnotherapist with experience in the specific field it may only take one or two sessions for the client to successfully quit smoking, whereas it could take four or five sessions with a more inexperience hypnotherapist. That is why younger hypnotherapists often charge less to make up for the extra time and sessions the treatment will take.

There are also a number of audio programs available online which have become a popular method of using hypnosis. Due to the nature of the internet a hypnotherapist can record a program to CD/MP3 and then sell it to a large number of people. This is why you can find such programs for as low as $10 when a personal session would cost much more.

If you are looking to make a change in your life, give hypnosis a try - you won’t be disappointed.

What is Hypnosis and How Does It Work?

Towards the back end of 2009 the BBC reported on a study that was performed at Hull University in England. For proponents of hypnosis and hypnotherapy, the findings were very exciting indeed. The research showed that the brains scans of people who had been hypnotized showed a decreased level of activity in the part of the brain linked to daydreaming compared to those who were in a normal state of mind. This would seem to prove that hypnosis isn’t just the placebo that skeptics make it out to be.

Since the news of this study broke more and more people have been willing to try hypnosis as a complementary treatment. The fact that it can be used to help treat addictions, anxiety, health issues, weight problems and other things means that hypnosis can aid a wide number of people. Even with this new found confidence people have in hypnosis though, few laypeople understand what hypnosis is and how it works.

While scientists are still not 100% sure about what hypnosis is and how it works (this can be attributed to the fact that we have only just scratched the surface on how the mind itself works), there is a general prevailing theory.

Hypnosis is considered to be an altered state of awareness whereby the person hypnotized obtains a heightened state of focus. This state primes the subconscious mind to be altered with hypnotic suggestions. This is the point at which a hypnotherapist will implant suggestions to their client that they no longer crave to smoke, that they desire to exercise regularly or that their body is healing at a faster rate. Because the subconscious part of the mind has difficulty distinguishing between fantasy and reality in the way that the conscious mind can, it begins to believe the hypnotic suggestions to be very real which causes a change in the way the mind works. Whereas before they had been hypnotized a person might crave a cigarette once every hour or so, after hypnosis these cravings would become more manageable or perhaps dissipate entirely.

A session of hypnosis consists of five parts. It begins with pre-talk where the hypnotherapist and their client discuss what they hope to achieve from the session. Then the session itself begins with a hypnotic induction which induces a light hypnotic state in the client. There is then a hypnotic deepener which deepens the hypnotic state. Both the induction and deepener typically consist of deep breathing exercises and/or creative visualization. At this point the client is ready to take hypnotic suggestions on board. Depending on the pre-agreed purpose of the session the suggestions could be to eat less fatty foods, exercise more often, feel confident around members of the opposite sex, or whatever else they wish to achieve. After this is done the hypnotherapist then wakes the client from the hypnotic state and the session is concluded.

Contrary to popular belief the client is neither asleep or unconscious whilst they are hypnotized. They are fully aware of what is being said to them and anything that may be happening around them. This is why a hypnotherapist can’t make someone do something that they don’t wish to do. Some people worry that a hypnotherapist might make them tell them all their secrets. However, not only is this not possible as the client would simply refuse (plus it is also possible to lie under hypnosis which is why hypnotic regressions cannot be used in a court of law) but a hypnotherapist would not want to risk their good name and business by doing something so highly unethical.

I hope that this article has cleared up any questions you may have about hypnosis. Should you choose to use it as a form of treatment I wish you the very best of success.
