How Hypnotherapy Can Help You Quit Smoking

Many people in the United States are finding various ways, which can help them to quit smoking. People who want to stop smoking will be delighted to know that smoking can be stopped effectively with the help of hypnotherapy. However, there are also mandatory requirements that a person needs to furnish for successful long-term smoking cessation. These requirements include a solid commitment. Without a commitment nothing will work and it will spoil your endeavor towards this noble cause.

A dedicated commitment coupled with hypnotherapy always works wonders for the person who wants to quit smoking.

Hypnotherapy is a therapy, which is undertaken with the person in hypnosis and is frequently applied in order to modify the person's behavior, attitude and emotional content as well as comprehensive conditions such as dysfunctional habits, stress-related illness, pain management, anxiety and personal development.

In hypnotherapy, the person who wants to quit smoking is disconnected from the real emotions and sensations. During hypnotherapy, the person is fully alert and attentive, but the mind is conditioned to follow what is suggested. These suggestions are nothing but dissuasions to the urges that tempt the person to light a cigarette.

Hypnotherapy also teaches the person to establish a strong motivation to forsake the vice. It also tells the person about the dangers of smoking and the advantages they will gain if they quit smoking.

Hypnotherapy also programs the person's brain by repeating suggestions to quit smoking, which helps the person get over the addiction. The brain takes the suggestions and uses it as the person's normal behavior. As all these suggestions are positive and work towards overcoming the habit of smoking, the person forsakes the idea of smoking and becomes a non-smoker.

Furthermore, hypnotherapy also has sessions that cover psychological manipulation. In this, the person who wants to quit smoking is made to realize the positive perceptions, and this involves strategies, which help to avoid the ambushing attacks of relapses. The main thing about hypnotherapy is no matter for how long the person has of smoked, hypnotherapy helps to overcome the habit of smoking.

It is estimated that a person undergoing hypnotherapy for the first time has a 25% chance of quitting the habit. This success rate increases and reaches up to 66% if the person undergoes multiple hypnosis sessions. The side effects of hypnotherapy are also very mild as compared to other quit smoking therapies and can be overcome quickly by discontinuing the process of induction. At times a person may fell dizzy and may even develop various degrees of nausea at the time of induction.

How Hypnotherapy Works to Help Quit Smoking

Quitting smoking is no joke! It is a real challenge and a very hard thing to do especially if you have been smoking for long enough. If you have been smoking for quite a long time now and you want to quit it, hypnosis can help. Smoking in general is very hazardous to health and planning to get rid of it is the wisest decision you will ever make. The fact that smoking can cause a wide range of deadly diseases and one is cancer, it is just sensible to quit smoking. While there are lots of methods that aim to help people quit smoking like nicotine lozenges, chewing gum, counselling, patches and other cessation methods, one significant alternative is hypnosis or hypnotherapy.

Hypnotherapy is proven to help kick the bad habit and empower patients to completely quit smoking. In general, hypnosis is defined as an altered state of awareness by which the individual is brought under a trance or a sleep state. Clinical hypnosis is done to treat certain psychological or physical problems such as pain, weight issues, bad habits, behaviours, fear, anxety, phobia, speech disorders, insomnia, addiction problems and more. There have been many arguments about the effectiveness of hypnosis; some people are still sceptical about it, thinking that it is some kind of spell of magic. But if one only knows the truth about hypnosis and how it can help alleviate such conditions, they sure will embrace it.

One significant benefit of hypnosis or hypnotherapy is the ability to help smokers to quit their bad habits of smoking and live a healthier life. During hypnosis for smoking cessation, the hypnotist often asks the patient to imagine the unpleasant outcomes of smoking. He will be brought in some kind of a relaxed state and will give suggestion to the patient like for example, cigarette smoke smells like truck or smoking will leave the patient totally ill because of its effects. Depending on the hypnotists, he or she will conduct effective smoking cessation methods like letting the patient think that smoking poisons the body, that you need your body to live and that you must respect your body and protect it. Every time and any time that the smoker feels or desire to smoke, the hypnotist will teach the patient self-hypnosis wherein he or she will ask himself or herself these affirmations.

While it is true that hypnosis is effective in ceasing smoking habits, but it does not work for everyone. About one in four people cannot be hypnotized and in terms of results, it may vary because not all patients are the same, each is unique. But when the procedure is successful, the impact of hypnosis is very beneficial. Hypnotists help smokers achieve their goal of quitting the habit on a regular basis and forever. The great thing about this procedure is that patients are empowered to quit smoking by using their imagination and creating a smoke-free future. After a series of hypnosis cessation session, patients felt very positive and stopping smoking becomes their very best choice.

Does Hypnotherapy Work For All People?

You might wonder, does hypnotherapy work? Could it be that easy to solve some of your long standing problems? The answer is yes. First you need to understand what hypnotherapy is. It is a totally natural state of mind. When doing hypnotherapy with a trained hypnotherapist you will feel very relaxed and peaceful. You might even wish that the session could last forever, it is so enjoyable!

Hypnotherapy has been widely misunderstood perhaps because of stage hypnosis. It is a form of entertainment and has nothing to do with hypnotherapy. There is a misconception that you might loose control, when in fact you are actually more in control and more focused! Hypnotherapy is a professional partnership between the hypnotherapist and the client. A person cannot be hypnotized unless he or she agrees and co-operates.

Hypnotherapy is a valuable therapeutic tool for enhancing a client's self-awareness and helps them to assume responsibility for healing themselves as well as giving them the tools and skills they need to do so.

I find once clients understand hypnosis and are in this deeply relaxed state, they love being there because it is so enjoyable to bypass the conscious mind and go into that place of "inner creative absorption" that is so visual and interesting. Once you quiet the conscious mind and learn to visit your inner world you will find that you can access that part of you that is beyond your conscious awareness. It is like going in to the files of your computer where everything is stored and being able to access your dreams, your past memories, and even heal a wound. Your subconscious knows how to relax you deeply and helps you accomplish the goals you have set for yourself. It just needs direction! You need to tell it what you want so it can go about helping you. If you get in a car and just start driving but don't know where you want to go you most likely won't end up where you want to be.

Hypnosis is one of the quickest ways to get where you want to go and the most enjoyable that I know of, because all the while you are in a deeply relaxed state, the work is being done! You and your therapist go on an inner journey together and when things come up your therapist can guide you through it in a way that can help heal past traumas, wounds, addictions, whatever it is that you are struggling with. It is done in a gentle but very effective way. Usually in 4 to 5 sessions most of my clients find the relief they were looking for or resolve the problem that they came in with. That isn't to say that more work doesn't need to be done on their own; and scheduling a tune up once in awhile but that has been my experience.

Everything you have learned is stored in your subconscious. Take driving for example; you have already learned to drive so your driving skill is stored in your subconscious.

Once you back out of your driveway and maneuver out on to the highway your conscious mind is then free and begins to drift off because the knowledge for driving exists in your subconscious. You conscious mind daydreams or goes off into deep thought, allowing your subconscious to become more active. When your attention is needed to stop or change lanes then your conscious mind comes into play again. Driving is only one activity; you go in and out of trance many times a day. Whenever you do anything automatic, your conscious mind is diverted from your subconscious and you are more likely to go into a hypnotic state, such as the one described. Other examples of automatic states are when you are taking a shower, jogging or perhaps eating alone.

With simple hypnotic, relaxation techniques that your hypnotherapist guides you through; you can begin to visualize yourself becoming healthier, happier, more confident, lose weight, stop smoking or whatever it is that you want to do! When in that relaxed, trance state you are more receptive to suggestion.

Hypnotherapy works for most people but it isn't just a snapping of the fingers. The client has to do some of the work too. It depends a lot on how motivated you are to change. The Hypnotherapist will help you to do the change work in your mind and reframe old belief systems. You will also learn many new ways to deal with your issue, as well as have post hypnotic suggestions for when your old behavior surfaces. You may also have some homework and hypnosis recordings to take home and listen to on a nightly basis. It is a very enjoyable way to work with your issues!
